I guess summer is truly here, even in Germany. I have to admit, I almost thought this won’t be happening anymore since the first few weeks of official summer were so dull. This is also the reason why we need to act fast as the temperatures will only rise from now on. This article contains a couple of quite useful beauty hacks especially designed for heat waves. At the bottom of the page you’ll also find some of my most beloved products during hot days!

Layering is definitely key.

Always start off with a silicone-based primer as they don’t tend to melt when mixed with sweat, water and humidity. I personally use Smashbox’ Photo Finish Foundation Primer and couldn’t be more satisfied with a product. During summer I also tend to use tinted moisturizers such as bareMinerals’ new Complexion Rescue Gel Cream. This for instance has a SPF of 30 and isn’t too heavy for sweaty days. What I’d also advise you to do is to set your foundation. Don’t worry about looking cakey! Setting with a loose powder like the one by Laura Mercier is important because it helps locking your liquid products in place.

I would also make use of cream blush (I for instance use DIOR’s Cream Blush in Paréo) as it forms a natural blush to the cheeks. It also doesn’t streak or fade like powder blushes during the summer.

What’s most important, at least for me, is to waterproof both your eyeliner and mascara. There’s nothing more annoying than black streaks on and under your eyes.  Standard eyeliners and mascaras just don’t hold up well in high-humidity situations. I would personally vow for the waterproof liquid liner by Catrice, it is as good as all the reviews on the internet say!

Last but not least: Lips. Everybody who says that lipsticks and lip products should be banned during summer is downright wrong or just not very fond of lipsticks. Normally it is better to reach for light formulas like in tinted lip balms or glosses. I personally still make use of my beloved nude lipstick by MAC. It’s “Enchanted One” from a limited collection called Alluring Aquatic. I fell like the packaging alone makes it eligible for summer, don’t you think?

So keep in mind: During heat waves, don’t forget SPF, a good silicone-based primer, setting powder and waterproof eye products and you’re good to go!
