On every first Sunday in November the so-called TCS New York City Marathon, better known as New York Marathon, takes place in the Big Apple. Ever since the year 1970 the most important marathon in the States has been organized by New York Road Runners and every year around it is the place-to-be for fitness lovers!

No surprise there when hearing that with an astonishing score of 50k finishers it is indeed the marathon with the most participants in the world. And that despite the fact that each year almost always 50% of interested runners are turned down to secure a smooth organisation of the marathon. Yes, that’s right, kids. You have to really fight for your spot! Nowadays a part of the spots are sold, another part is being given to charities and the last part is being given away by lots.

In the previous year Wilson Kipsand from Kenya managed to run the total km of 42.195km in only 2 hours, 10 minutes and 50 seconds. Mary Keitany, also from Kenya, was the proud victor amongst the women with 2 hours, 25 minutes and 7 seconds. A truly interesting part is that the marathon is no circle, no. It follows through all five city districts of New York City. The runners start off in Ford Wadsworth on Staten Island over Brooklyn, Queen, the Bronx and finish in Manhattan. The finish line is located in Central Park.

I personally think that every passionate runner should at least participate once in their lifetime just to prove to themselves that they can.
