Here on Sundays, you can now find rag-fair booths nestled between dilapidated mills, while on Fridays and Saturdays parties take place in these industrial wastelands. On weekdays, an open-air cinema, whose graffitied surroundings emnate an unforgettable atmosphere, replaces all this. Where, you may ask, is this all going down? At the RAW Gelände at Revealer Straße in Friedrichshain, Berlin! The 51,000m² space now offers amazing summer events.

Architects Kees Christiaanse/ASTOC Architects and Planners from Rotterdam have reshaped the former Ausbesserungswerk (RAW) into a location that very much fits in with the neighborhood. Sites were specifically defined for various cultures to unfold and develop upon. That’s a great approach for multicultural districts like Friedrichshain. The former factories were mostly left unrestored, resulting in an industrial image that is currently very trendy. This also helped residents identify themselves with the industrial area. The “Haubentaucher”, a pool club, has just joined the site.

See you at the RAW Area!
