In 1969, Iraq was recognized as the first non-socialist state by international law of the DDR-government and as such, a lovely embassy was built for her in 1974. This is located even until today in Berlin’s Niederschönhausen (Pankow). But in comparison to the many other embassies, this one has been deserted since 1991. One reason for that was the fall of the DDR and another was the outbreak of the Gulf War, which had severed all diplomatic ties Iraq had with Berlin. After the ties were reestablished, the embassy was shifted to Dahlem. Hence, the Iraqi embassy of DDR remains empty.

To this day, you can still explore it. It is a typical DDR-building of the 70s and has been preserved for a long time. After a fire, however, many files and datas have already been lost. But this does not mean that the embassy is not worth a trip. Using it as a photo background is always exciting enough. That I can assure you!
