Just the other day, I was rummaging through my closet in desperate need of finding something wearable – imagine how downright appalled I was when it struck me just how colorless everything looked. I know, a more neutral color palette is much easier to deal with, but at the end of the day they only form the basic foundations of a clothing collection.

Ever since that realization, I’ve been working on introducing more color into my wardrobe. One of the perks of being an editor at Readthetrieb is that I continuously get to know new designers and their labels: Mexican brand Pink Magnolia is one of these labels. Creative Director Paola Wong always manages to comec up with something innovative for each new collection. Her SS 15 line completes itself very cohesively. The collection includes clear, yet feminine designs that are fashionable and simple at the same time. This is occasionally interrupted by supremely fashionable geometric and floral patterns. In addition to that, they’re all in really bright colors and have quite the abstract vibe to them, which looks particularly well placed in front of the black and white background. They appear almost neon, further transforming the floral patterns.

On the other hand, the geometric patterns remind me of the Mayan temples that can still be found in some parts of South America. Paola Wong therefore manages to incorporate a piece of cultural history into the cutting-edge collection of Pink Magnolia. I personally think that the collection has the perfect balance of simplicity and details. I originally intended to save some money this season, but with all the newly released collections that’s really not going to be easy.
