Berlin’s S-Bahn (Railway) has become a legend in its unreliability, but whoever waiting for an S-Bahn on the platform of Siemensstadt will have to wait way longer. Since 30 years ago, no train passes here anymore. The reason for that is a strike and a new U-Bahn (Subway) line. Siemensstadt was the mighty city construction project which was to strengthen the empire of Siemens. Factories and houses for workers were built in the part of Berlin which was still empty back then. This had to be somehow made accessible and thus its own railway station was built. This is located extremely close to the U-Bahn and can be easily reached by foot from there.

At the train station, you will expect exactly this: an old, abandoned ghost train station in the middle of a well-loved city. Follow the tracks and steel buildings and you will find old signal boxes. This here contains a gigantic piece of Berlin’s history, ranging from the German Empire, the Weimar Republic, and the 3rd Reich all the way to the splitting of Germany. This place here has played an important role in all these segments of Germany’s history.

Meanwhile, a future use of the track is currently being considered, so hurry and explore it!
