Meltem Özbek belongs to the group of designers who went on a different path before discovering her passion. For her, the graduation from the Istanbul Bilgi University for international relations came before her training as a fashion designer. As she decided afterwards to work as a fashion designer, everything went in rapid succession. She finished her studies at the Istanbul Fashion Academy, got nominated shortly for the prize of the Koza Young Fashion Designer Contest, displayed her collection in London and received a scholarship for the advancement of her training.
Cut to the chase, we can be happy that Meltem Özbek has discovered her hidden talents. She is devoted to an exciting leather design and developed new ideas for the usage of materials. Leather bags and shoes are known to all – but what about women fashion? You can now discover them! Meltem skillfully makes use of leather to modernize the female silhouettes.
In summer 2015, the collection of statement-pieces is dominated by leather. High-waist hot-pants, crop tops and dresses receive, thanks to the unusual material, a completely new identity. Fringes accompany the design and appear, in combination with the leather, Indian. Tender, almost transparent materials blend into the collection. This way, we experience a line in between glamourous evening wear from glittering materials and everyday pieces in the style of natural permeability.
Meltem Özbek is also displaying her new collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in March – stay tuned to what the winter already has in store!
