Sporty retro chic – this is what best describes the concept of the spring and summer collection which Hidenari Kumakiri designed for the label Beautiful People for the last Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo. The show began with a tennis match, which served as the ideal introduction to the preppy and sporty look of the collection.

The outfits for women remind us of the athletic look of the 60ies which was particularly popular in the US. One ensemble made of a white t-shirt with a crew neck and tight-fitting cut, knee-length, wide skirt with an A-shaped silhouette and low-top sneaker with short, transparent socks caught our eye as it seems to be infused with an amazing vintage and retro feeling. We couldn’t avert our eyes from the cute short shift dress decorated with white lace either which was worn with the same sneakers as in the previous look, giving it a very casual touch.

If we take a look at the men’s assortment we can observe a slightly more daring approach. Prints and patterns play a crucial role here. A look made of a bright grey pair of cloth pants with a checked pattern and a short-sleeved shirt which impresses with a stylish gingham pattern stood out and really made us think of bygone times when a preppy style was the alpha and omega for the fashionable man.

All in all we can say that Beautiful People indeed presents the perfect look for beautiful people. Classical pieces with preppy silhouettes are paired with colors like red, navy and green. Prints are totally on the label’s agenda as well, ranging from floral patterns to chevron prints. Looking at this collection, we can do nothing but look forward to what the brand will present to us in March within the frameworks of the next Fashion Week in Tokyo!
