Karrie Arthur is an American tattooist and artist, who really appeals to me. In her studio Black Bird Electric, she creates the coolest tattoos I’ve seen for a long time. They are retro to the core. They have the charm of old sailor tattoos, which is combined with trendy dotwork patterns. At this, she focuses on only a few colors. Aside from black and grey shades you will only find different red shades. This gives a nice contrast to the tattoos. This contrast is refined and enhanced by harsh shadings. She chooses perfect motifs that perfectly reflect their retro charm, including for example icons, stylized portraits, animals, hands etc.
Because she’s also a talented drawer, she proves what she can offer in this field. She especially likes to draw on old letters and into old books, which highlights her old-school style.
