Do you know that feeling when standing in front of paintings and photographs with the mere thought: “How in hell did he think of something like that? In which dimensions does he have to think when he can create pieces like these?” Dan Hillier is one of those outstanding artists. His pictures are surreal, fantastic and simply epic. You can almost see the creativity pairing up with a remarkable talent to create such epochal almost dreamlike pieces. The reality is something very distant in his work. Through his works he invites us into worlds we haven’t even dared to think or dream of. They look something like long lost worlds of gods and hint to these gods’ presence in our reality. Mixed images that have traces of portraits, landscape paintings and animal displays also belong to his broad range of artworks and aren’t in the slightest less impressive.

He also tends to incorporate geometric additions into fantasy images, which seem to come from foreign dimensions. The main part of his artworks is colored in black and white. Only a little part of his work contains color elements that disrupt but don’t destroy the picture. All in all, his style does remind you of illustrations from the 19th century. His inspiration however, he gets from his travels to cult sites of long lost civilizations in, for instance, India or the Andes. Who knows, which kinds of creatures he met along the way that traded this magnificent talent for his soul… A special treat for you: The artist creates prints of his pictures and sells them. A special edition was printed in beaten gold. That would make one fine Christmas gift, don’t you think?
