There is one thing I have to clear up first. The original name of the cemetery and the crematory, which I am going to present to you, is Mount Hope cemetery. However, on the internet you will find more information and images if you look up the name Mount Rose for a simple reason: The cemetery was visited by so many people that it was decided to change the name and therefore hide the cemetery’s existence.
The eternal resting place is situated in the state New York and was built in 1837. The chapels and crypts on the area were built in a Victorian style, which is however marked by Gothic influences. This thrilling architectural style bestows something very scary upon this place and I really don’t want to imagine spending a night there.
The crematory, which was constructed in the year 1912 and stayed spared by major changes, is even spookier. Although the cemetery almost lies completely idle, it can still be used. Yes, you heard it right. This cemetery is still operative, except for the oldest parts. These are not cared for and thus left to decay.
The architecture really is special because, as I said, the mix of different styles turns this cemetery into a very creepy place. If you plan a trip to the USA and want to experience a real adventure, then pay the Mount Hope Cemetery a visit. But don’t disturb the dead.
