Well, that was a great weekend trip! I had spontaneously booked flight tickets to Amsterdam. I really needed to treat myself to something! The outbound flight was scheduled to leave fairly early, and there were still many German soccer fans running around, reeking of alcohol. But I wouldn’t allow them to spoil my weekend!

The flight took one quick hour, and I shortened the time by taking a nap. I arrived in the city after a 30-minute bus ride, and what can I say…

Everything was beautiful! The buildings, the alleys, the canals and even the people. I’m not joking. It seems like Amsterdam is populated solely by pretty and stylish people. After I had dropped my stuff off at the hostel, I left to explore the city. First destination: the Cat Museum. Yup, it’s a museum dedicated to cats. There were images, sculptures, and even a real cat strolling around the museum as if she owned it.

In general, Amsterdam is a very green place. You’ll be able to find flowerpots and decorative plants everywhere. The entrance of every house was decorated with flowers, which fit in really well with the architecture – the houses were narrow, old, and cute. I do wonder if the people of Amsterdam know how adorable their city is, compared to a place like Berlin!

Later on, I strolled through the city and paid a visit to the flea markets, where I bought a very cool vintage military jacket and a watch. After that, I had some lunch. Compared to Berlin, the prices were quite expensive, but still acceptable. With a full stomach, I continued on to Amsterdam’s legendary coffee shops. There, I was first asked for my ID before I could enjoy the little green pleasures they had to offer. I made a good choice to take a short break in the park afterwards, and the place was littered with young, good-looking people, all looking very happy.

In the evening, I decided to go to a bar, and I made the right choice in doing so! A live band was performing, and I sipped my overpriced beer while enjoying their rendition of “Get Lucky”. After several hours had passed, I crawled up the stairs to my hostel room, and sank into a deep, satisfied sleep.
