You’re far away from civilization, somewhere in the wild and you want to make a fire? The only stupid thing is that you ran out of your matches which you used to light your cigarettes. You don’t have to become desperate. There are ways that show you how to make a fire without matches. Just use the sun’s energy!

Do you perhaps have a magnifier with you? Then, look for some tinder and lay it out. After that, you let the sun shine through the magnifier until it is focused in one little spot. This point will collect a lot of energy which can inflame the tinder. No magnifier? Okay. You can also use eyeglass lenses, but it’s going to be a little harder to absorb energy.

You don’t wear glasses? Don’t worry. I’ve another idea. Take a transparent plastic bag and fill it with water. Tie it so that it becomes full and firm and now use it as a compensatory lens. This is a little tricky, but if t’is really sunny, your chance of making a fire will be better.

It’s also possible to use a can to put the tinder into it. Now, form a funnel using aluminum and insert it into the can. After laying it under the sun, the energy will come together on the can’s bottom and inflame the tinder. For this method you need strong sunlight. It’s best to do it around noon, when the sun has most of its energy.

Next time, I will show you how to make a fire without matches when there’s no sun.
