Do you remember Faithless? Of course! The title “Insomnia” alone has already brought a lot of sleepless nights to me and my friends.
Sudha Kheterpal, the band’s drummer, started a innovative idea on the crowdfunding platform kickstarter.com . Her project is called Spark and is a huge version of shaking ice. With this music instrument you can even produce electricity. This idea came up during one of their concerts. How is it possible to save energy that is produced by drums etc. and to make is usable?
Well, okay, this seems to be a quite useless idea for Germany where no one has to worry about electricity. But it isn’t made for such regions anyways. Sudha cares about those parts of the world where people don’t get enough electricity, for example in Kenya. In this country, it’s really hard to bring some light and everyone is happy about just a tiny bit of light during the night. Girls would be more protected with such an USB-LED-lamp when they go home late at night. And since people like jam sessions over there, Spark has also another message for them: “Shake your power!”.
This project still needs some support. And it’s really worth it. For 40 bucks supporters will be given an exclusive gig by Faithless in London. All this is a great combination of technical utility and the musical connection of us humans.
