The Briton Richard J. Evans really is a talented person, particularly when it comes to abstract and surreal artworks in the form of collages. But he also seems to have a passion for re-interpreting old masterworks. But what blows my mind the most is the graphic 8-bit versions of the movies of the Japanese film studio Ghibli.

The anime studio itself is already fabricating art. Now imagine, Chihiro and Ashitaka, two popular Ghibli characters, being illustrated in a retro –bit design just like the games from the 80ies we know. Well, doesn’t it sound like an explosion of nostalgia: Spirited Away, the Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, each and each one of these movies just drip with beauty and thanks to Richard J. Evans they will shine in a beautiful retro design. Everyone whose childhood is marked by these beautiful animes and the Nitendo Entertainment System won’t be able to resist these artworks.

But in order to do the artist from England justice, I have to add, that his Ghibli artworks of course aren’t the only thing which makes him awesome. The rest of his artworks look great as well. Retro and modern, but above all creative. These characteristics describe his art well. Collages truly are his hobby horse. In a virtuosic manner, different elements are united and put in the limelight in order to create something really great.
