Red deer truly are beautiful animals. The thick and wonderfully colored fur, the gorgeous, dark eyes and the antlers indeed make this animal the king of the forest. You’d think that this is a peaceful king ruling his kingdom. But I’m sorry. You are wrong!

Red deer truly aren’t as harmless as they seem to be. On the one hand, they attack and kill humans by hitting them with their hooves if they feel bothered. Especially in the rutting season the deer bucks can become aggressive. But don’t underestimate the females protecting their calves either.

What however truly is surprising is the fact that deer do eat birds. This behavior in particular is the case if a deer population is living on an island. The deer will wait near the nests until the small nestlings would fall down. Sometimes they hit the trees to make them fall, other times they feed on ground-breeding birds and their nestlings. Well, but they don’t eat the entire bird. Most of the time, deer only bite off the wings and the head including the brain… creepy.

Natural scientists suppose that birds serve as a source of calcium source which mainly help the bucks to grow their antlers.

Well, I personally will definitely avoid crossing paths with any deer. I just don’t want to get trampled to death by a deer which probably wants to break my skull to get to my juicy brain.
