Derek Lam’s eponymous label is one of the most successful young fashion labels of New York. After having worked as a designer for Michael Kors for ten years and having gained many experiences and knowledge, he founded his own label.
He knows how to impress the fashion world. He graduated from the Parsons School of Design and started his own business in 2003. Derek Lam stands for minimalist designs and femininity. For his current collection he works with black and white and some colorful (blue or rose colored) elements. The chunky checked pattern stands out a lot and gives a sporty touch to the entire collection.
There are two looks which impress me a lot. They reflect the feeling of the collection in a perfect way. The first one is a combination between a knee-length, chequered dress with a deep neckline. Despite the quite elegant cut and the spicy décolletage, the look becomes very casual and balanced thanks to the chequered hat.
Last, but not least, we have a very flowing dress, which becomes very precious thanks to its circle skirt. However, Lam achieves again to balance out the elegant style. He uses a sporty collar, a belt and the mixture between the fabrics to create a wearable look.
