Jean Paul is a label given birth to in the heart of Berlin. Although this metropolis isn’t situated near the ocean, the designer nonetheless let himself become inspired by the strength, power, colors and shapes of this natural titan. The resulting design concept looks as if waves have raged across the surfaces of many garments. In fact, the dynamic nature of the ocean was turned into a collection full of thrilling pieces of clothing. The organic and curved lines, which move restlessly, pushed by the wind; the beautiful glistening reflections created by the sun beams – all these aspects are installed into the collection by Jean Paul.
Based on this inspiration, rather calm designs are created. The looks are often plain-colored or marked by a very harmonic color palette. The extremely virtuous looking draperies and the washed-out prints however are the center of Jean Paul’s concept. Colors ranging from light blue, to yellow and silver to red are employed – yes, this is the representation and the simulation of a sunset across the ocean.
Jean Paul truly is a master when it comes to draperies. They consist of a couple of creases and diagonals and yet they take up the entire space. The small movements and the unevenness of the sea in the morning when the waves are still showing their soft side are reflected by Jean Paul’s works.
The designs by Jean Paul are feminine and light. They seem to be drawing us under their spell with ease and promise a very beautiful and joyful summer in 2014.
