As we all know, many companies more or less under large restructurings at the turn of the year. The sudden shock news hit the entire electronics and computer industry on February 6th,2014. A spokesman announced that SONY is selling their VAIO brand.
The company interested in buying said brand is no one less than Tokyo’s investment fund group Japan Industrial Partners (JIP), for all of those who never heard of this company before: you can roughly compare it with Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG. A large association buying basically anything they consider “best bang for the buck”.

Further, it is mentioned that one of the reasons for selling the brand is the drastic change of the worldwide computer market. In accord with media reports, Sony hopes to receive 291 to 365 million Euro (converted). Moreover, as another part of the restructuring measures, 5000 people are to be laid off out of which 3500 are located offshore. Another reason for selling VAIO is said to be a Sony suffering from rough times, when fundamental measures are needed to remain marketable.
