Mengyi Audrey Hu is a Chinese designer, who lives and works in London. She also graduated at the London College of Fashion, moving from Australia to London. Long before she graduated in 2011, she has been able to gain a lot of experience in various ateliers such as Erdem, Julien Macdoinald and even Viktor & Rolf – the latter are her favorite designers by the way. In contrast to her favorite designers however, she has a passion for vintage.

Her latest collection is called “Crossroad Blues”. In this collection, Mengyi unites blue collar worker style with ritual jewelry of West-African tribes. Withal, Mengyi Audrey Hu especially was thinking about science expeditions and excavations, where the ritual scientists were temporarily accommodated by the tribes and have been living as guests in a foreign environment.

The main colors Mengyi uses in her collection are different tones of red and white, which might resemble the mix of the different cultural tribes. In all of the designs, you can see the elements of traditional worker clothes. Various belts, sometimes at unusual places, or large pocket flap all strongly remind us of the scientist clothing, while the little balls on one of the jumpers could be inspired by the tribes.

Mengyi Audrey Hu is a young designer and creates wearable as well as unconventional fashion, which differs from the mainstream fashion style with little adornments. Her source of inspiration is worked out clearly, which displays her own interest too.
