The young designer Jolka Wiens from Berlin graduated at the  Gerrit-Rietveld-Akademy in Amsterdam in 2012. Her special interest applies to the experiment of extraordinary fabrics which you can also see in her final collection. “Mimi/Kry” is its name and has its focus on the human face.

A face is empty until just a tiny bit of Emotions is able to change it, that’s a conclusion of the designer. With this principle she has been creating her collection. The basic shapes are kept similar and are orientated to the static approach. These pieces are mostly made op neoprene and git some final touch ups with a laser. At some parts, the material is divided with stripes which seems like a flat and empty face until the wearer breathes life into them with their movements. These stripes are differently placed at the upper and lower body. They are sometimes longitudinal, sometimes across, they sometimes follow the given direction and sometimes not.

Jolka Wiens just got out of university, thus she shows us how adventuresome and open she is towards innovative ideas and materials. She presents us her curious side with her collection without any exaggeration.
