Ports wurde 1961 in Toronto – Canada – gegründet. Bis heute hat sich das Label weltweit etabliert und präsentiert sich nunmehr in über 380 Geschäften weltweit. Geführt wird es von den kreativen Köpfen Fiona Cibani und Ian Hylton. Aber was macht Ports 1961 so besonders?
Um das herauszufinden, habe ich mir mal gleich zwei Kollektionen angesehen. Für Herbst und Winter 2013/14 handelt es sich meiner Meinung nach um eine mehr als nur gelungene Kollektion mit vielen Raffinessen. Die Farben wurden von den Ports-Designern passend zu Herbst und Winter eher dunkel und warm ausgesucht. So finden sich viele Grau-, Braun-, Bordeaux,- und Schwarztöne in den Designs.
Besonders beeindruckend finde ich die Materialvielfalt und ihre Umsetzung. Neben vielen Fischgrät- und Boucléstoffen werden auch Wollgemische, Satin und Leder verwendet. Ich finde, man sieht selten eine Kollektion, die in Hinsicht auf die Materialien soviel an Auswahl bietet und diese unterschiedlichen Stoffe so gut zu kombinieren vermag. Ganz besonders gut gefällt mir das graue Wollkleid in Kombination mit den roten Lederhandschuhen, denn das Kleid sieht nicht nur gut aus, sondern hat auch mal einen wärmenden Mehrwert. Auffällig ist auch, dass der Rollkragenpullover wieder zurück ist und in vielen verschiedenen Looks kombiniert wird.
Selbst wenn die Herbst- und Winterkollektion überwiegend aus Kleidern und Röcken besteht, ist sie in Kombination mit Stulpen auch in den kälteren Tagen sehr gut tragbar.
Im Vergleich hierzu fällt die Frühjahrs- und Sommerkollektion 2014 sehr frisch und farbenfroh aus. Insgesamt finde ich diese Kollektion auch wesentlich sportlicher durch die Schnitte und Kombinationen. Viele Kleider und Röcke machen in den Farben Weiß, Pastellblau, Pastellgelb und zartem Rosa Lust auf Sonne. Ganz besonders gut gefällt mir das gelbe Kleid mit dem Allover-Print einer untergehenden Sonne. Also wenn man da nicht Lust auf den Sommer bekommt, dann weiß ich auch nicht. Ein Revival erfahren hier wiederum die Blouson-Jacke in Kombination zu Röcken und Blusen mit einem sehr kurzen und geschlossenen Kragen. Auch in der Frühjahrs- und Sommerkollektion wird mit den verschiedensten Materialien gearbeitet, sodass fließende Stoffe, Pailletten und Stickarbeiten wiederzufinden sind.

Ports was founded in 1961 in Toronto, Canada. Until today the label established itself worldwide and now it’s presenting itself in more than 380 stores. It is led by the creative artists Fiona Cibani and Ian Hylton. But what is so special about Ports 1961? To find out I looked at two collections of them. The one for fall and winter 2013/14 in my opinion is more than just successful, marked by extremely filigree refinements. The choice of colors by Ports’ designers is made suitable for fall and winter, rather dark and warm. So many shades of grey, brown, wine red and black are found in these designs.
I think the variety of materials and the implementation are especially impressing. Besides herringbone and bouclé fabric, also wool mixtures, satin and leather are used. I think you rarely see a collection that offers such a great selection considering the materials and that is able to combine all these in such an excellent way. In particular I liked the grey wool dress in combination with the red leather gloves, because the dress doesn’t only look good but also has a warming value. What also struck the eye is the inclusion of turtle necks into the collection which can celebrate its comeback now thanks to Ports.
Even if the fall and winter collection predominantly consists of dresses and skirts it still is wearable on cold days when combined with gauntlets. In comparison to this, the spring- and summer collection of 2014 is very fresh and rich of colors. All in all I think this collection is way more casual thanks to the cuts and combinations. Many dresses and skirts in the colors white, pastel blue, pastel yellow and light pink make you look forward to the summer. I particularly like the yellow dress with the allover print of a setting sun. Blouson jackets undergo a revival in combination with skirts and blouses with a very short, closed up collar. In the spring and summer collection the designers work with various material as well, so flowing fabric, sequins and knitting work can be found
