Man sagt, dass zu viele Köche den Brei verderben. Bei Daydream Nation arbeiten aber ganze vier Designer und was dabei herauskommt, sind Kuriositäten vom Feinsten. Unter der Überschrift Lookbook verbergen sich drei Abteilungen.
„Daydream Nation Mainline“ macht den Anfang. Darin finden wir aberwitzige Designs, welche meist runde Formen zur Grundlage haben. So wird ein durchsichtiger Stoff voluminös über einen Rock gelegt. Dabei wurden in diesem Stoff Kreise ausgeschnitten, was das ganze wie eine Qualle wirken lässt. Des Weiteren wird mit dem Thema Pferd gespielt. Nicht bloß als Schmuck wird das Tier dreidimensional verarbeitet, sondern auch als Hut oder sogar als Ärmel.
Auch in der zweiten Linie des Labels wird das Pferd kombiniert. Sie heißt „Dreams for Sale“ und geht die Modewelt noch verrückter an, als die vorherige. Hier wird vor allem mit verrückten Prints, knalligen Farben und ausgeflippten Kombinationen gearbeitet. Die Schnitte orientieren sich eher am Viereck im Gegensatz zum Ersten, fallen aber genauso locker. Sterne, Vierecke, Blumen tauchen in einem wilden Durcheinander von Orange und Blau auf. Das Model mit ihren Zöpfen erinnert in diesen Kleidungsstücken an eine moderne Pippi Langstrumpf.
Der Schmuck würde der vermutlich auch gefallen. Verschiedenfarbige Perlen werden in einem Mandalamuster zu einer Kette zusammengefügt. Es werden Ketten, Plastikperlen und Spitze eingearbeitet. Eine skurrile Wirkung hat auch die Mischung aus goldenen Nieten und pinken Perlen, welche in einem Stück vorkommt, weil es sowohl Niedlichkeit als auch Gefahr ausstrahlt. Die Perlenkette, welche mit einem Strumpf aus schwarzem Netz überzogen wurde, sticht besonders hervor, da sie wohl nicht so bunt ist, wie die meisten anderen Exemplare, und eigentlich von Chanel sein könnte.
Daydream Nation ist wirklich ein eigenes Land in der Modewelt, wo alles Kopf steht und nichts ist wie es scheint. Das Label hat sich vom Mainstream abgewendet, zieht strickt sein eigenes Ding durch und ist somit der Papagei unter all den grauen Mäusen.

A proverb says that too many cooks spoil the broth. At Daydream Nation four designers work together. The result: bizarre design at its best. If you go on their site, click on “Lookbook”. You will see that the assortment is divided into three lines.
First I’m going to describe the “Daydream Nation Mainline”. In this line, we can find very funny and humorous designs, which mostly have round shapes as their base. A transparent fabric is draped above a skirt. The fabric is embellished with cutouts which are shaped like circles, making the whole thing look like a jellyfish. Furthermore, the horses play a very important role in the design. The animal cannot only be found in the jewelry in a three-dimensional way, but hats and even sleeves somewhat have something to do with horses.
In the second line of the label the horse is a key motif as well. The line’s called “Dreams for Sale” and even is more bizarre than the previous one. Here, the designers, above all, play with crazy prints, luscious and shrill colors and totally freaky combinations. The cuts are geared to the square instead of the circle like in the first line, but the cuts seem rather loose as well. Stars, squares and flowers appear in a wild chaotic pattern pared with orange and blue. The mannequin with her tied her looks like a modern Pippi Lonstocking dressed in Daydream Nation’s designs.
The jewelry would probably delight Pippi as well. Beads of different colors are arranged in a way which reminds you of a mandala pattern in order to form a necklace. Chains, plastic beads and lace are used. The mixture of golden studs and pink pearls has a bizarre effect as well as these elements form a contrast between cuteness and toughness. The beaded necklace which was covered with a black netlike fabric is particularly outstanding because this model is not as colorful as most of the other models. It almost looks like an item Chanel’s accessory collection would carry.
Daydream Notion really is like a different foreign country in the fashion world, where everything is upside down. The label turned away from everything mainstream and strictly sticks to its own principles. Thus, the label is the parrot among the grey mice in the fashion world.
