Um sie weben sich Sagen und Mythen, ganze Bänder füllen sie. Wo man sie sieht, erregen sie Aufsehen und Furcht. Die Rede ist von dem Geheimen Tattoo-Code der „wory w sakone“ (???? ? ??????), die Diebe im Gesetzt. Dies ist der Kern der russischen, organisierten Kriminalität und sie sind eingeschworene Brüder bis in den Tot. Ihre Bruderschaft entstand zu Beginn der 20er Jahre, als Verbrecher in das GULAG-System gesteckt wurden. Dort blühte die schwarze Rose der Wory auf. Denn nun, über ganz Russland verteilt, konnten sie ein Netzwerk ausbauen, wie es die Kriminalität noch niemals zuvor gesehen hatte.
Ihr Schlüssel, die Tätowierungen. Anhand solcher konnten sie lesen, wer ihr Bruder war und was er getan hatte. Solch ein Tattoo musste sich verdient werden und wer Schande brachte, dem wurde es sogleich entfernt, d.h. die betreffende Körperstelle. Daher kommt die Redensart „kleiner Fehler kostet dich einen Finger“. Durch jahrelange Studien ist es Danzig Sergejewitsch Baldajew, einem Sprachwissenschaftler, gelungen, Teile des Codexes zu entschlüsseln. Die Strafe für diese Sünde war sein eigner Tot.
