Mike Brodie (geb. 1985) ist ein Selfmademan. Er brachte sich autodidaktisch die Kunst des Fotografierens bei und verschaffte sich selbständig immer wieder Aufträge als Fotograf. Im Alter von 18 Jahren verließ er sein Zuhause, trampte über Gleise und fuhr illegal auf Güterzügen mit. Immer dabei, seine Kamera. Damit gelangen ihm einzigartige Aufnahmen von Jugendlichen, die ihre jungen Jahre damit verbrachten, quer durch die USA zu fahren und die Abenteuer ihres Lebens zu verbringen. Frei und glücklich, vollkommen ohne jeden Zwang und nur das nehmend, dessen sie habhaft werden konnten.
Seine Fotostrecke ist inzwischen berühmt und ich will sie euch nicht vorenthalten (eine Auswahl zumindest). Sie verkörpert den rebellischen Traum eines jeden jungen Menschen und ich schätze, Mike Brodie wird zumindest manchmal noch die Tage auf den Zügen vermissen…auch wenn spöttische Zungen jetzt behaupten, seine Strecke ähnelt einem Urban Outfitters Katalog.

Mike Brodie born in the year 1985 is a self-made man. He taught himself the art of photographing and lived on landing jobs as a photograph which he all organized by himself. At the age of 18, he left his home, tramped and illegally used cargo trains as a means of transport. His only constant and companion: his camera. With this camera, he took amazing and unique photographs of juveniles, who spend their young years roaming the USA and diving into adventures. Free and happy – completely without any restrictions set by society, they only take what they can get.
His photo series is famous by now. Thus, I don’t want to deprive you of this amazing piece of art. At least I’ll show you a small selection. This series incarnates the rebellious dream of every young person. I guess, Mike Brodie does miss his days he spent on trains. I adore his art, even if critics say that his photographs look as if they have been taken out of an Urban Outfitters catalogue.
