This is the man who leapt from a gently descending helicopter while wearing a suit, holding a drink in his hand and proceeding to launch into his concert performance straightaway. Frank Sinatra knew all about putting on a show, and he did things his own way.

He was the very definition of the gentleman singer, and was hugely popular during the swing era in the United States. Always well-dressed with a beaming smile, he quickly became a crowd favourite. But appearances can be deceiving. Rumour has it that the Mafia had a hand in their game, and periodically gave Sinatra’s career a little “push”, such as in the 1950s when his popularity began to decline. He’s also had a few affairs, which is not a very gentlemanly thing at all to do!

In any case, Sinatra’s career received a second wind, and lasted up until the 90s. He even sang at his good friend John F. Kennedy’s election campaign in 1960.

And honestly, if you call yourself a real gentlemen, there’s no way you wouldn’t enjoy listening to a few songs of Ol’ Blue Eyes’!
