Just as I promised, I tested Escrima, the Fighting School with a fight sport philosophy I already told you about. It focused on redirecting the enemy’s force, on taking advantages of any situations and on being able to use any object one can find in his environment to defend themselves against the offender. I experienced the mix of Spanish fencing and traditional Filipino fight sport together with my friend.
The training room was rented by a theater. After changing clothes we directly started with the warming up. This means that we had to undergo exhausting, narrow press-ups on our fists. Then we trained some elementary motion sequences intensively, so that we control them for sure.
We’re not using weapons yet – firstly because we’re beginners and secondly that is typical for Escrima: being able to use an unarmed technique for fighting. Both trainers are harsh but cordial. If you train eagerly they’ll praise you, but when they see you’re not trying as hard as you can due to laziness, they’ll make sure that you will speed up a bit…
Sparring came next, and I wonder that I made it without causing larger damages. Even though it was very exhausting, it was definetly fun too!
