Within the frameworks of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin, a multitude of side-events take place outside the famous Mercedes-Benz tent. The Premium is one of the bigger trade fairs during the fashion week apart from the Panorama and the Bread & Butter which presents countless collections by established and new designers from all over the world. But of course, these labels have one thing in common: They are said or have the potential to set trends and shape and form the fashion landscape of the new season. In order to support young talents, the Premium honored a number of promising young fashion creators with Premium awards in different categories. The winner of the Premium Young Designer Awards for the Fall & Winter season 2015 in the category men’s wear went to the 23-year-old Spanish designer Guillem Rodriguez. Rodriguez was born and grew up in Barcelona where he attended the BAU, a renowned design university. After his last collections Romantycs and Vulnérable already won many hearts and appealed to countless critics in his home country which earned him several Spanish awards, the Premium Young Designer Awards seems to serve him as a commercial spring board on the international fashion market.
His spring and summer collection 2015 which bears the name Manifesto enjoyed a lot of success as well. The line is defined by clear, structured shapes and slim, sometimes skin-tight cuts. Decoration? There is no need for unnecessary embellishment. Button borders were left out and replaced by zips, while seams are made invisible. Looking at the top assortment, we can observe athletic, casual, loose t-shirts on the one hand and on the other hand, tight sleeveless tops add in a pinch of excitement. When it comes to pants, the designer relies on different lengths and even lets his male models wear tight leggings to emphasize the extravagant side of his label. The style however is in general extremely modern and minimalist, which is particularly complemented by plain colors such as black, white and beige. Nevertheless, accentuations in blue and yellow can be spotted in the clothing line as well and certainly serve as colorful, eye-catching highlights. They provide the collection with a summery flair and bestow a very artistic touch upon the style. The line seems to have been influenced by abstract works of the Constructivism, which have probably inspired the abstracted, geometric shapes which you can see on the clothing.
