Parisian singer Serge Gainsbourg, who was of Ukrainian origin, was a great musician with a wonderful voice. His biography was paved with scandals through and through, yet he never lost his reputation as a male sex icon who was able to make women weak at the knees simply by looking at them.

The lyrics of his songs dealt with spicy and juicy situations, which were often expressed and verbalized through explicit words. Furthermore, Gainsbourg often entered the stage drunk off his face, which made his performances extremely scandalous and infamous in his day. I’m talking about the early 1960s.

Nevertheless, his works are considered a milestone in music history, thanks to their thoroughly dirty romantic and playful. Although you may not have heard of him before, you’ve probably heard one or two of his songs, because his works are often used to accentuate romantic and indecent film scenes.

Serge Gainsbourg may have been a very unusual man – he liked young, beautiful women, painted the walls of his flat black and set money on fire while the cameras were rolling. But he seems to confirm the stereotype of an excellent musician whose talent and creativity stemmed from his tendency to break rules, norms and standards. Indeed, his music was extraordinary, energetic, melodic and challenging.

His life was just like his music – a constant rollercoaster ride. As a little kid, his son Lucien Gainsbourg was a constant attendant at his concerts. Today, he has become just like his father: a singer whose music speaks the language of love, sex and passion.
