Author: James F. Cooper

The Last of the Mohicans is an adventure novel that illustrates the battle of the British against the French, taking place on the territory now known as the United States of America.

Despite it not being their battle, Native Americans fought as mercenaries amidst the British and the French troops. Hawkeye is the protagonist of this novel, and a hybrid of two cultures. White by blood yet Native by habit, he was raised by Native Americans. Together with his closest friends, the last Mohicans Uncas and Chingachgook, Hawkeye agrees to rescue the kidnapped daughter of the British governor. Thus begins an extremely adventurous hunt through the North American wilderness.

The Last of the Mohicans is a very exciting book and has been declared a real classic. Nevertheless, critics claim that it only depicts one side of the battle, and tends to exalt and glamorize brutality and violence. But I think you should form your own opinion by reading this thrilling novel!
