Here we go again: colourful leaves, a slowly dissipating heat, mild weather, and drowsy rain. The world turns melancholic, but it’s a beautiful melancholy that expresses itself in the brown, yellow and red nuances that have begun to coat the forests and leaf-lined streets of Europe. Composer Erik Satie, who lived through the second and first halves of the 19th and 20th centuries respectively, perfectly captured this slightly gloomy yet magical season of the year in his compositions.

The Colours of Autumn Gymnopedie No 1-3 are composed for solo piano. They sound like the definition of serenity, security, and autumn itself. Satie’s pieces are just perfect for watching the leaves turn brown, red and yellow through yours window while enjoying a cup of hot chocolate and snuggling up in your coziest knitted sweater.
