The Big Apple is probably one of the most exciting cities in the entire world! Broadway, the Skyline, New York cheesecake… Fans of partying all night, however, claim that there’s just one area New York can’t compete with Berlin in: the clubbing culture!

Big Apple is indeed known as the city that never rests. Nevertheless, fans of electro music sometimes feel like they’ve gotten the short end of the stick. In New York, parties are mostly about seeing others (and being seen by others!); about glitzy glamour. It’s what the typical Berliner would snidely call “Schickimicki” (German: fancy-schmancy). Well, seems like all this is about to change!

New York is now doing their best to draw level – they’ve been importing DJs from Berlin in order to improve the local electro scene. Of course, these German guest DJs have already previously performed at the Berghain. Now, New York hopes to bring together Berlin techno culture while focusing on its most important aspect: music to dance to.

Their first attempts at importing a Berlin party attitude into New York have resulted in this: every hipster and electro fan has crawled out of their nests in Brooklyn, and some can now even be found all the way in Manhattan! These parties are in a different location each time – shortly before they begin, those with a ticket receive a text message stating the party’s location. Abandoned construction sites; high-up lofts; factory buildings – each time, it’s a new and completely unknown place. The party really only takes off in the early hours of the morning, just like in Berlin.

It remains to be seen whether New York will manage to strip Berlin of its reputation as the party capital of the world. Will imitations ever top the original? We’ll see. What do you think?
