You know it’s summertime when the garish red strawberries start smiling at us from all the booths at markets!

Can’t get enough of these delicious berries? No worries, strawberries are only about 32 kcal per 100g: they’re actually about 90% water, and they consist of so many heathy vitamins and minerals! They’re packed full of of vitamin C to help strengthen your body’s defences, folate and iron to help blood formation, and calcium to give you strong bones. Strawberries are not only delicious, but also very healthy!

Fresh strawberries are the best, as they lose their aroma after being stored for only a while. Usually, I can’t manage to eat the entire box – I make delicious strawberry buttermilk smoothies with them instead!

You’ll need:

  • 500g strawberries
  • 500ml buttermilk
  • 1 TS honey
  1. Wash the strawberries. Let them dry and remove their green leaves and stalks. Only do this after having washed the strawberries as their taste might be diluted otherwise.
  2. Toss them into your blender and blend it all up!
  3. Add the buttermilk.
  4. Add the honey.
  5. Put the smoothie into the fridge until your stomach has space for more strawberries 😉

Enjoy your refreshing smoothie in the hot summer sun!
