I am currently travelling in the Tyrolean Alps in Ötztal, where I have found the best Kaiserschmarrn in the world! Namely in an alpine hut, where delicious Tyrolean specialties are prepared with traditional methods using the best of the regional products and served with heartfelt hospitality. The fragrance from the kitchen can be detected from far away and the large sun terrace entices you to relax in the beautiful weather. But even if the weather was bad, the hut still offers an unmistakable cosiness.

A visit to the hut Gampe Thaya by Jakob and Daniela Prantl is absolutely worth it! The compact menu offers the finest home cooking such as brewed herbs, Tyrolean Gröstl, sausage and of course the famous classic – Kaiserschmarrn. As I was so excited by the hot Kaiserschmarrn served on the cast-iron pan, I begged the boss for a recipe demonstration. Relying more on the well-trained hands rather than a strict recipe, he mixed the ingredients for the dough together. After around five minutes, the golden brown Kaiserschmarrn sprinkled with icing sugar finds itself in my already watery mouth.

For Jakob, the quality of the product is very important. He himself is a farmer of 30 grey cattle-cows which have already received many gourmet awards. The milk, the cheese, the ham is thus from its own production. Everything is prepared personally in the hut. The loose apple and cheese strudel, the Ötztalian Käsespätzle and also the sausages. This quality can be discerned by taste! I recommend you to stop by and take a look in winter or in summer and enjoy genuine fine-dining at 2000m altitude. Even among experts, the hut have already made a name for itself, as whoever was once there would never stop coming!
