Craco is one of the oldest Middle-Age-cities in Europe. Some buildings even date back to the 8th century BC, to the ancient times. The city was erected on a hill, which used to be very handy as Italy consisted of numerous city states that often waged war.

Little by little, it became bigger and wiggled around the mountain. This resulted in its unique appearance. Because of this, the city became one of the most popular sceneries for movies (e.g. “Quantum of Solace”). But what actually makes it really unique is the fact that it is a ghost city.

Firstly, many inhabitants left the city due to economic crises at the beginning of the last century. And when the mountain partly collided because of a landslide in 1991 taking part of the town with it, it was almost completely abandoned. Now, the town is almost empty.

What else could be a more impressive place than this half-destroyed and half-abandoned ghost town of the Middle Ages, which is haunting in the middle of South Italy?
