“So they’ll hang me in the morning, Ere this long night is done, They’ll hang me in the morning And I’ll never see the sun..”

Director: James Mangold

Christian Bale: Dan Evans
Russell Crow: Ben Wade

“3:10 to Yuma“ tells the tale of a criminal bandit and murderer Ben Wade and the sincere but poor farmer Dan Evans. Scared that he might lose his farm, Evans agrees to work together with a couple of bounty hunters to get the recently arrested Wade to a train station from where he is ought to be sent to Yuma to await his death sentence. On their way to the final destination we get a glimpse into both worlds of the two men.

To make things authentic, gunfighters and mischievous thieves were also included in the movie but they haven’t been idealized like back in the old days for a long time now. The characters are authentic and believable and they convince the audience with understandable motivations with which they justify their doings. The showdown, something that simply has to be included in the Wild West, was also produced a little bit more on the dramatic side to let things appear a tad more melancholic. The whole movie builds up the tension until this very moment and releases its full power in the showdown.
