Pennhurst State School was a facility for mentally and physically ill people from Pennsylvania. It was opened in 1903 and after a series of controversies and rumors closed in 1983. To this day, it is said to be haunted. Already back when it was newly opened it was practically overrun by incoming patients from the whole state. That is precisely why it was decided to enlarge the whole facility, which explains the sheer size of the whole complex with dozens of therapy, operation and patient rooms.

Have you ever been to a facility for the mentally diseased? Did you also feel rather uncomfortable? Try and imagine the whole scene set during the turn of the century. Electric shocks, beatings and abuses were allowed at that time as a form of therapy. Even children were treated this way. When in the 80’s the bad conditions were finally discovered, the whole hospital was closed.

Some of the buildings were reopened by now and a veteran cemetery has been added to the area. But as for the other buildings, they were kept closed with all of the inhabited instruments and treatment rooms. The most horrific part of today’s horror story is the part where they put up a ghost train ride in a renewed part of the complex. Oh America, you sure know how to entertain us, big time!
