The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul is the leading fashion event in Turkey which offers regional designers an international platform to build a connection with the global press, retailers and customers worldwide. The event definitely boosts the general awareness towards Turkish fashion and the global presence of Turkish designs, while the culture is accentuated and the beauty of Istanbul is emphasized. There is no city like Istanbul where the western and eastern culture collide.
IMG Fashion, one of the worldwide leading producers, advertisers and partners of the international fashion community did not fail to grasp the potential of this fashion spectacle. Thus, the enterprise is planning to pour vast resources into the future of the Turkish fashion industry, organizing digital and social campaigns.
The recent edition of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week took place from October 13rd to October 18th, 2014, giving 60 designers the possibility to present their latest designs. The fashion week was opened by a multitude of designers on Monday. Hatice Gökçe was one of these designers depicting the beauty of her country’s history in her designs. For the spring and summer collection 2015, it was the famous Ottoman adventurer Evliya Çelebi who inspired her. With intriguing shades like silver, brown and black paired with metallic elements and leather, each outfit exuded a beautiful Ottoman flair, supported by harem pants and the full beards of the models.
The female designer Zeynep Erdogan was present at the MBFWI as well and presented her collection on October 17th. In the year 2001, the designer’s talent was discovered. Consequently, Frankie Morello and Neil Barrett engaged the Turkish designer to take part in different protects. Her breakthrough however took place on the Milan Fashion Week in 2006, when she presented her concept of making use of vintage garments and transforming them. Since 2009, she has been taking part in the Fashion week in Istanbul on an annual base. But of course, Zeynep Erdogan is already hosting international fashion shows which take place in metropolises like Paris and Berlin.
