omote 3

Does your daily makeup session soon become a thing of the past? Project Omote could represent a peek into the future of the cosmetics industry.

Omote is Japanese and basically stands for our looks – mainly the aspect that gives people the first impression about a person when you’re seeing the person in the blink of an eye while passing them.

PROJECT OMOTE is what happens when the media artist Nobumichi Asai, makeup artist Hiroto Kuwahara and the digital image engineer Paul Lacroix meet to make an art project. The brilliant face tracking software tracks your facial outline and a beamer then applies digital makeup on the face.

I think this idea doesn’t have to be restricted to the face only. The first thing that came to my mind was that you could use OMOTE to project the human anatomy on a body, for example for teaching purposes!

Anyway, girls, what do you think of this project? No more putting on countless layers of makeup, no more looking like a panda because of smudged eye shadow, no more outshining the disco ball because you forgot to apply powder!

Well, okay – we should be realistic. This won’t happen in the near future. But what we all agree on is the fact that Omote  truly is a futuristic, inspirational and wonderful art project!
