Kate Sylvester was born and raised in New Zealand and loves to play with a multitude of styles. Her collections are combinations of rock, rebellion, classic, elegance, sports et cetera. Well, it does sound a little bit chaotic and random but behind all of this is a clearly structured idea. It’s something new and unique, basically a harmonious creation with a clear agenda.
Kate has had a long career in fashion, 21 years to be exact. It’s incredible to see that she still puts in 101% energy into each and every collection of hers. The secret behind it, she charges her creative mind and creations with feminine power. For instance, she managed to surprise everyone with an elegant overall picture with hints of rock chic, glamorous sophistication, sporty elements and romantic highlights.
Pastel colors and more muted shades turned this summer into a nostalgic dream. Even the way she edited and cut her creations was inspired by the past. Feminine outlines with the focus on the waistline and metallic colors expressed a certain feminine toughness. She even presented Marlene Dietrich trousers, waisted leather dresses and pleated skirts with see-through laced shirts and bustier and thus showed how well she can work with class and sensuality.
The mix and match with a hat sporting an extra broad brim completed the whole look. One moment her collection reminds us of the hippie time, in the next one she manages to introduce us to a more Bohemian style and an aristocratic clientele of an older age. Embroideries, lace and prints complete the delicate, organized chaos, which can be admired at the New Zealand Fashion Week on August 28th at 8.30pm.
