Käptn Peng & Die Tentakel von Delphi is an alternative/indie hip-hop band whose main role is played by singer and actor Robert Gwisdek. Firstly, the brothers Gwisdek made music together as Käptn Peng und Shaban. In 2012, three further musicians joined the group and the Tentakel of Delphi were created then.
The musical influences come from funk and funk-rock. The most special feature of the band is their texts’ profundity, which shine thanks to elaborated puns and irony. Ponderous topics of philosophy and life in general seem to be covered ludically so that one can listen to various versions and interpretations. A lot of it includes a lot of humor. Nevertheless, the texts still encourage to reflect, for example when Käptn Peng discusses the universe’s origin with a sock puppet – the so called ovulation of origin.
Every piece is recorded with instruments. The band doesn’t use any samples. However, one can admit that “instruments” has many versions. From suitcases to baking pans – everything is included. Of course, also “real” instruments are integrated.
