No food or photo junkie would be happy to present an autodidactic artist like  Henry Hargreaves. On the one hand, Hargreaves presents food in a deeply conceptual way, on the other hand he destroys and modifies the delicacies making them become unrecognizable. Hargreaves is inspired by the relation between the eater and his food. And of course food itself has always fascinated him.

In an interview he underlined his fascination with the way we choose our food. He says this choice gives an impression about which type of human the eater is or even about the way his character could be. Various characteristics und themes are presented in his portfolios in which he features various artists. He is convinced that working with other creative people who are interested in completely different art movements give him the opportunity to forget himself as a photographer. Complex approaches are enriching his experiences.

In my opinion, FOOD MAPS is one of the most striking projects by Caitlin Levin and Sarit Melmed. The 11-part menu of the world shows countries and continents like the US, China, Africa, New Zealand, Japan or Italy playfully displayed from various perspectives. This project shows how enjoying foreign cuisine be and how they enable the eater to get to know and to engage with a new culture. The menu shows the origin of the various ingredients on the basis of real food.

There’s one question buzzing in my head while viewing the US: Is this flour coming out of the southern fields of America?
