tapeworm

Hello fellow beauty lovers.

I’m someone who probably gains 10 pounds just by looking at a pizza. Discipline, clean eating and physical activity are the keys to success. It does sound easy in theory but to actually realize it is a whole new story. Frustration often leads to strange activities late at night, for instance: Googling “easy weight loss methods”. That’s how I stumbled across the Tapeworm Diet. It promises a rapid weight loss without having to reduce your food intake, all you have to do is swallow a pill and wait it out.

In the 1900’s the trend of consuming tapeworms to lose weight began to spread. People were consuming beef tapeworm cysts in form of pills. Usually you get those things by eating undercooked meat, contaminated water or unhygienic food preparations. Some don’t experience symptoms at all, whilst others suffer from abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, diarrhoea, loss of appetite and weight loss. Sometimes you can even see a part of the worm in your stool!

Whilst on that diet you are supposed to wait until the worm is at its respected size, he will feed from the nutrients of your body and lay eggs into your intestines. Because he eats what you eat, you will experience the feeling of hunger all day long, you will eat all day long without gaining any weight. Once you’ve reached your desired weight, you can kill it by swallowing another specific pill.

You don’t have to be a genius to see this practice comes with numerous risks (epilepsy, dementia, eye problems, meningitis). The worm can grow up to 9m and live up to 20 years in your body. Sometimes it may cause an obstruction of your intestines, which then has to be surgically removed. If you are infected with a pork tapeworm it can also lead to a disease called cysticercosis. The larvae of the worm tackle the intestinal wall, get into your bloodstream and reach other organs, where new cysts will then form. I am squeamish just writing this right now!!

Yours truly,

Lana Hoang
