Japanese artist Hisaya Taira was was born in 1960 in Tottori. At 19, he moved to the big city of Tokyo, where he began to study oil painting and also completed his degree at the Tama Art University. As early as 1994 he assembled his first exhibition.

Taira has a truly exceptional taste when it comes to his choice of subject. While other artists select mystical forests, coasts or melancholic rainy inner cities for their landscape paintings, he has made ??it his credo to paint metro stations.

But what is it that makes his art so exciting? Where he spends hour after hour, to represent the platform with all the dirt and grimes as realistically as possible, we would not even take 5 seconds to take a picture of it.

People, if they are ever in the picture, are in the background and just decoration because the true star of his images is in fact the subway station. He seems to have found a particular fondness for the New York rail tracks as well.
