Jenny van Sommers is a Still Life and product photographer. If you compare her to other photographers of the same metier you will notice that she uses an artistic/conceptual approach as opposed to the technique her colleague uses.

The holder of the Golden Lion award lets her work speak for itself; she rarely speaks about personal matters. The odd thing is that you wouldn’t expect anything less from an artist like Jenny van Sommers, her work however, is like an open book. The relation to geometry is crystal clear. With a studded plastic steak, which she shot for the magazine Viewpoint she also showed her preference for surreal topics. In the picture the plastic steak is mirrored on the glass ground on which it was placed.

One of the rare things she ever admitted about her person was that she was inspired by George Condo, Kurt Schwitters and Sarah Lucas. Sarah Lucas occupies herself with installations

including genitals and raw meat whilst Condo and Schwitters show Dadaistic, constructivist and surreal approaches.

Jenny van Sommers‘ geometric studies don’t seem like boring construction work, they explore the open space and play with lights and shadows. Her work often rooted from deals with magazines like DAZED and Vogue, for instance the egg and bow for Teen Vogue. In her lifetime she also worked with Apple, Audi, Hermès and Nike, where her work is highly appreciated.
