“It was my idea … that’s why she’s in there. It was really cold, it was much colder than today, but she couldn’t hit out a bed. That’s how we used to be. (…) Why she went in there with children? I don’t know. We thought that it might be warmer, I mean we were children. And she laughed, and then she was gone!”

Richard Dunn, an author who suffers from writer’s block, is unhappy – unhappy with his marriage and unhappy with his life. That’s why he and his wife decide to move to Long Island to start working on his new work. Richard starts hallucinating and creates an imaginative friend, a superhero, Paper Man. Paper Man has to be by his side when he’s in trouble.

He meets the young girl Abby, who also lives in a very bad relationship. They become friends, just like a friendship between father and daughter. They realize that they have more in common than they have expected. The process of getting over one’s wounds is an active one which one has to realize. Paper Man is a melancholically nice movie, a ballade to all those who are lost in life. Time to come of age.
