On April 5 the world, or rather Kurt Cobains fans, should be commemorating the 20th anniversary of his death. If he’d know what some fashion producers do with his face that is used as a motif so that their shirts can be sold, it is obvious that – to say the least – he would not be satisfied. Teens wear Joy Division, James Dean and Kurt Cobain t-shirts without even knowing who they are, just because Primark says it’s cool to wear portraits of dead, famous stars now.

They wear them solely because of the fashion aspect, and that is exactly my point. After their death, great musicians become nothing but money-making machines. Therefore cultural heritage seems to keep dying out. Thus, people who really like those icons and want to express something by wearing this kind of fashion are quite exasperated.?But what can we do? We can’t just stop wearing our favorite t-shirts because of those teens who follow the latest trends blindly. To forbid it would be way too bourgeois.

If someone will ask me why I’m wearing a t-shirt with a blond Che Guevara, I’m just going to explain who Kurt Cobain really was! And maybe if we’d all stop buying those remastered albums that are coming out 30 years after the bands split-up. Let’s stop buying the things certain producers launch onto the market. In particular, the fashion industry would finally let Kurt, Ian, Jimmy & Co rest in peace.
