Zugegeben, er sieht schon aus wie ein kleines Monster aus der Vorzeit, aber genau das macht ihn ja so spannend. Der kleine Lurch, welcher aus Afrika stammt, hat schon seit einer Weile seinen Weg in Deutsche Zoo-Handlungen gefunden und erfreut sich dort großer Beliebtheit. Er wird max. 5cm groß und kann somit auch in kleineren Aquarien gehalten werden (aber bitte nicht in Einweckgläsern, wie zu Großvaters Zeiten, das ist Tierquälerei).
Es gibt ihn in vielen verschiedenen Farbvariationen zu kaufen. Vom Albino, über marmoriert, bis hin zu pechschwarz ist alles vertrete. Hier mal ein paar Tipps zur Haltung.
1. Die Kleinen Frösche leben rein aquatisch, brauchen dennoch Sauerstoff zum atmen.
2. Das Aquarium sollte ca. 30cmx20cmx20cm groß sein und mit vielen krautigen Pflanzen besetzt werden. Dazu noch ein paar Äste und große Steine, damit der Frosch was zum Verstecken hat.
3. Ihr könnt mehre Frösche zusammen in ein Becken setzen. Es sollten aber max. 3-4 sein (das Becken sollte dann auch ein wenig größer ausfallen).
4. Füttert sie mit Mückenlarven und Flohkrebsen, am besten ist allerdings der Bachrohrwurm geignet!
5. Zur Paarung führen die kleinen Frösche einen spannend anzusehenden Tanz vor. Danach legen sie bis zu 1.000 Eier ab. Am besten fischt ihr diese ab und verkauft sie weiter, wenn ihr nicht von Fröschlein überflutet werden wollt.
6. Kannibalismus an den Kaulquappen kann auch vorkommen.

African dwarf frog
Admittedly the African dwarf frog does look a bit like a prehistoric monster. But I think this is exactly what makes this pet animal so exciting. The amphibious animal which actually lives in Africa as the name already suggests can now also be acquired in German pet shops. It can’t be denied that this little fellow’s popularity is growing fast. The frog can grow to 5cm. therefore you can keep it in small aquariums. But please, don’t put these frogs in jam jars.
There are many different color variations. From albino and marbled to pitch-black. Here are some tips for you if you want to keep a dwarf frog.
1.The small frogs are completely aquatic. However they do need oxygen to survive.
2.The aquarium should at least have the following dimension: 30cmx20cmx20cm. A lot of plants should be placed in it. I also recommend stones and branches to you so that the frogs can hide in there.
3.You can keep several frogs in one aquarium. However, the maximal number of frogs should be 3-4 if your aquarium has the dimension mentioned above. If you want to keep more frogs, the aquarium should accordingly be bigger.
4.Feed them with mosquito larvae and shrimps. But the food appreciated by the frogs the most is sludge worms.
5.The mating behavior pattern of the frogs includes a very exciting-looking dance. Afterwards, the female frogs will lay up to 1000 eggs. Your best bet would be to take the eggs and sell them if you don’t fancy a frog invasion.
6.Don’t panic if you witness cannibalism among the tadpoles. This sadly is an ordinary behavior pattern.
